Elevated CO 2 and plant species richness impact arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal spore communities

چکیده
• We enumerated arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal spore communities for 3 yr as part of a long-term CO 2 enrichment experiment at Cedar Creek, Minnesota, USA. Complete factorial combinations of two levels of CO 2 and N, and 16 perennial plant species grown in monoculture and 16-species polyculture were arranged in a splitplot design. • In 1998–2000, spore communities were quantified under monocultures of eight plant species. In 2000, measurements were expanded to include monocultures and polycultures of all of the plant species. • Under plant monocultures, only Glomus clarum responded significantly to CO 2 elevation out of 11 species present. This response was not detectable under plant polycultures. Glomus clarum was also significantly more abundant under plant polycultures. Nitrogen addition had small negative effects on AM fungal spore abundance and species richness in 2000. The interaction of CO 2 and N did not affect arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal spore communities. • We show that CO 2 enrichment and plant species richness impact arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal community structure. These findings are important because altered symbiotic functioning may result.

Seven years of carbon dioxide enrichment, nitrogen fertilization and plant diversity influence arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in a grassland ecosystem.
• We tested the prediction that the abundance and diversity of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi are influenced by resource availability and plant community composition by examining the joint effects of carbon dioxide (CO(2) ) enrichment, nitrogen (N) fertilization and plant diversity on AM fungi. • We quantified AM fungal spores and extramatrical hyphae in 176 plots after 7 yr of treatment wit...

متن کاملDiversity of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi in Disturbed and Undisturbed Forests of Karbi Anglong Hill District of Assam
Conversion of tropical forests to agricultural lands is one of the leading causes of biodiversity loss. To assess the impact of such forest conversion on microbial diversity, the present study investigated the diversity of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) in undisturbed forests (UF), Slash-and-Burn Fields (SBF) and Monoculture Forests (MF). The study sites are located adjacently on a hilly sl...
متن کاملSeasonality and host preference of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi of five plant species in the inner mongolia steppe, china
The seasonal change and host preference of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) colonization and community composition of five common plant species Agropyron cristatum, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, Cleistogenes squarrosa, Leymus chinensis, and Stipa grandis in the Inner Mongolia steppe were investigated. The AM root length colonization rates were different among the five plant species and were generally h...
متن کاملRelationships Between land Use and Arbuscular Mycorrhizal (AM) Spore Abundance in Calcareous Soils
This study was conducted to determine soil properties that correlate with the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) spore numbers in semiarid calcareous soils of Hamadan province in northwestern of Iran. Soil samples from six sites managed differently were collected from a 0 to 30 cm depth. The results showed that land use and management systems had a significant effect on AMF spore number in soi...
